  4. program and any other files e.g. readme files et.c. as long as YOU agree
  5. not to make any money from this product. You can charge a minimal copying
  6. fee as long as the total cost is not more than twice the price of a blank
  7. disk and a stamp. (Currently that would be about £1, £1.10 or so.) Lost_Icon
  8. can go on CD-rom collections as long as they are not more expensive than a
  9. (cheapish) CD-rom game would be (£25-30 at the time of writing).
  10. If you want Lost_Icon for a magazine coverdisk then you'll have to arrange
  11. terms with me (Probably just that I get a mention in your mag).

  16. There is no shareware fee. If you've got Lost_Icon you can use it for free -
  17. it's a gift from me to you! If you want to send me a gift in exchange then

  29. WHO IS IT FOR & WHY

  31. Right, that's the disclaimer out of the way!

  33. You can do what you want with this but it's intended really for people with
  34. loads of mem.

  36. You're doing a batch operation on ADPro, Rendering in Imagine or whatever
  37. and in the meantime you decide to mess about on the workbench screen.
  38. You change your prefs and presto! All of your carefully laid out and
  39. 'snapshot' icons are in the top left hand corner of the screen!
  40.  
  41. Arrgh! What do you do? You left out hundreds of utils icons or liked the ones
  42. did leave out how you left them and not where they now are.

  44. It's either unbearable trying to find the one you want (or you're fussy) and
  45. you can't reboot (because Imagine is still only 4.2% rendered), what do you
  46. do? You run "lost_icon"!

  50. WHAT DOES IT DO?

  52. To put it simply, what this program does is tell WB to bloody well put your
  53. icons where they were!
  54. It does this by reading in the icon... then writing it out again, fooling
  55. WB into thinking that the icon is somehow different...
  56. WB says "Aha! I'll just find out where that should be...."
  57. Where should it be?
  58. Where it was last snapshot.

  60. Of course, this means that the disk the file is on has to be write enabled
  61. but that's a small price to pay. (It's probably on your hard-disk)

  64. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO RUN THIS?

  71. 3, WB 2 or better...  (sorry 1.2 & 1.3 owners, you can't have AppWindows,
  72.     upgrade soon, please, it's so much better!)

  74. 4, It will probably be of most use to hard-drive owners and people who
  75.     have enough memory to do lots of things at once.

  77. 5, People who are using muFS... Set the U protection bit and set the owner
  78.     of Lost_Icon to be 'root'.

  96. Of course, if a disk (or any other file for that matter) has NO icon, or the
  97. icon is read only, then 'lost icon' can only twiddle it's thumbs.

  133.     Feb ?? 95 - 1.xx    Original program, it was rotten and buggy.

  135.     Mar 17 95 - 2.xx    I rewrote the code completely.. and accidentally
  136.                         deleted it! ARRRGH!

  138.     Aug 01 95 -    3.1        Believe it or not, i forgot all about Lost_Icon until
  139.                         today. I just gave Lost_Icon a *real* user interface
  140.                         and help messages et.c. Lost_Icon now also has sound
  141.                         (via UpD). See the file Read.Me.Upd
  142.     Aug 11 95 -    3.2        A problem in 3.1 meant that Lost_Icon couldn't put
  143.                         drawers back where they belonged. I've just sorted
  144.                         this out.
  145.     Aug 15 95 - 3.3        The program now complains a bit more if it can't find
  146.                         the libraries it needs. The code is easier to follow
  147.                         and the right error messages appear at the right times!
  148.     Sep 12 95 - 3.4        The little message is now a bit better at finding the
  149.                         middle of the dropbox. The code is now a bit neater.
  150.                         (but not much!)
  151.     Dec 29 95 - 3.5        New sound added (wow!). I used the newest version of
  152.                         GadToolsBox on Aminet (2.0c) to generate my windows...
  153.                         Hopefully now they will be font sized for everyone
  154.                         (Although I might just recompile with topaz/8 before
  155.                         uploading)
